Spending his undergraduate years at Principia College in Illinois, Scott graduated magna cum laude with double Bachelor’s degrees in History and Philosophy. While at Principia College, Scott maintained a four year academic scholarship and filled leadership roles in the varsity sports of football, basketball, and track. Scott was also the recipient of the Charles F. Buckwalter award for highest four year academic achievement by a varsity athlete. Scott attended law school at the University of North Carolina, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2006, with a break in his legal education from the fall of 2003 to early 2005 to serve in Iraq as an interrogator for the United States Army. While serving in Iraq, Scott was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal as well as Company, Brigade, and Division level Coins issued for meritorious effort and service. During law school, Scott was a member of the International Moot Court competition team.
Scott is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court as well as all three North Carolina Federal District Courts. He has filed and/or argued at every North Carolina Appellate Court level. Prior to joining to the firm in 2014, Scott worked as the managing attorney for the branch office of another multi-state defense firm with oversight to over 200 active files. Scott now practices in the areas of workers’ compensation and auto-liability defense. Through his work with Teague Campbell and their affiliations with the trucking industry, Scott has become a board member of the North Carolina Trucking Association (NCTA), and actively participates within their legislative committee to address large scale and positive changes for the industry in North Carolina. Scott’s practice has since gravitated toward a focus within the trucking industry. This passion led him to obtain his CDL class A driver’s license through attendance at the Truck Driver Training School in Smithfield, North Carolina. Scott is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys.
A student athlete, a soldier/veteran, a lawyer, and a truck driver, Scott is also a father to three children and husband to his wife Stephanie Farwell. Scott frequently lectures on a number of continuing education topics for the firm and his clients, including attorney and adjuster ethics, the National Flood Insurance Program, Communications with Medical Providers; the NCIC Opioid Rules within North Carolina, and annual case law updates.
