Originally from Minnesota, Kyla’s legal practice took hold in Raleigh and she now proudly calls the area home. She focuses on workers’ compensation defense and has represented clients before the North Carolina Industrial Commission and the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Kyla counsels employers, insurance carriers and third party administrators and has specific experience with manufacturers, retail stores, apartment complexes and professional employment organizations. She enjoys the intersection of workers’ compensation and employment law and provides supplemental employment counsel to her clients regarding issues such as leave, hiring and firing, and general releases. Kyla believes that customer service and responsiveness are close seconds to a thorough knowledge of the law and strong advocacy skills.

A love of learning was instilled in Kyla at a young age by her mother who always encouraged the pursuit of a well-rounded education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Core Distinction from Colgate University. After spending a year studying German at Albert-Ludwigs-Universitaet in Freiburg, Germany, she attended law school at Wake Forest University, where she received her Juris Doctor degree. During law school, Kyla was a member of Women in Law, a Guardian Ad Litem advocate and also participated in the Elder Law Clinic, which provides free legal assistance to moderate income seniors. Kyla continues her support of the community through a variety of environmental causes and organizations such as Wake Women Attorneys and The Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina.

Kyla is energized through relationships and enjoys getting to know her clients and their business. She has presented at numerous industry seminars and has also participated as a panelist speaker for continuing education programs. Prior to joining Teague Campbell, Kyla was a Special Deputy Commissioner at the North Carolina Industrial Commission. She brings her distinct knowledge of the NC workers’ compensation system to every claim that she handles.

Kyla and her husband, Ian, have two young children who keep them busy. Spending time with family is important to Kyla, but in the rare quiet moments her pastimes include knitting, gardening and reading about personal finance. Kyla also has a passion for cooking and enjoys taking cooking classes and experimenting with different preparation methods. Despite her wide variety of interests, they all come back to one central theme – always keep learning.
